Question 1

1. Is Subaru's AWD system expensive to maintain on a used car?

Accepted Answer

Not unusually, if serviced on schedule. Center differential fluid changes and CV joint checks are the main upkeep points to confirm before buying.

Question 2

2. Does a used WRX or STI hold its value better than a regular Subaru?

Accepted Answer

Yes, generally. Performance trims see stronger demand and slower depreciation, especially for well-documented, unmodified examples.

Question 3

3. How do I check if a used Subaru's AWD system still works properly?

Accepted Answer

Ask for service records covering the differential and drivetrain, and request a test drive on a loose surface if possible.

Question 4

4. Is a boxer engine harder or more expensive to service than a standard engine?

Accepted Answer

Slightly, due to its layout requiring more disassembly for certain jobs, but parts and mechanics familiar with it are widely available.

Question 5

5. Can Better Cars Japan verify a Subaru's drivetrain condition before I buy?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The AWD system and boxer engine are checked specifically during inspection, with a report provided before export.
